Assam: Event organisers sell tickets on pretext of strip dance, two arrested

GUWAHATI: Over 500 men allegedly tried to force woman dancers to strip during a cultural programme in Kamrup (R) district on June 9.

According to reports, the event organisers sold tickets to people at high rates claiming that the dance troupe from Coochbehar, West Bengal would perform strip dances in a village under Chaygaon Police Station.

Two men identified as Shahrukh Khan and Subahan Khan, were arrested by authorities after a case was filed against the organisers of the programme.

In the FIR, it was mentioned that the dancers of the group were heckled by the spectators who demanded that they strip and dance, however, victims managed to escape from the programme at Asolpara.

In the meanwhile, Chaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed while interacting with the media said that those involved in the harassment of the dance troupe shall be severely punished.

Police said further investigations are underway and a hunt is on to nab others involved in the incident.
