Assam Elections 2021: One More Contender Eyes BJP Ticket from Gauhati East Constituency

GUWAHATI: In a turn of events, one more contender’s name has come up for the East Gauhati constituency. A total of four Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members are now in the fray for the coveted seat. The names include incumbent Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Siddhartha Bhattacharya, former Mayor of Guwahati Mrigen Sarania, Legal Adviser to the Chief Minister of Assam Santanu Bharali, and BJP Spokesperson Pramod Swami.

Pramod Swami, the spokesperson of BJP Assam Pradesh, has represented the party on national television. Swami is known for his attempts and efforts to unite various communities hailing from Assam like the Marwaris, Biharis, Bengalis, Sikhs and others to be part of the greater, unified and composite Assamese society. He  is also the co-convenor of the BJP (Assam) Media Election Sub Committee.

His father, Mahavir Swami, was Councillor from 53, East Gauhati Fancy Bazar in 1995 from the BJP and had also gone to jail during the emergency.

While Swami has claimed to be a tough contender for the ticket, a highly placed source in the state BJP has refuted his claims speaking to G Plus.
