Assam: Eco-Sensitive Zone Around Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary Approved

GUWAHATI: Assam State Government during the State Cabinet Meeting on October 9 granted approval to a revised draft notification for the declaration of an Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around the Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary in Tinsukia.

The ESZ will encompass an area extending 1 kilometre around the wildlife sanctuary, aligning with a directive from the Supreme Court.

This move has been targeted at safeguarding the delicate ecological balance and preserving the pristine biodiversity within the Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary.

The declaration of an ESZ has been undertaken for conserving and protecting the natural habitat and wildlife in and around the sanctuary.

By delineating this zone, it has been planned to regulate and manage human activities that may impact the sanctuary's fragile ecosystem.

The 1-kilometre ESZ will be subject to specific regulations and guidelines aimed at balancing the needs of environmental conservation with the interests of local communities and development initiatives in the region.

These regulations may encompass restrictions on certain industrial and construction activities to mitigate potential harm to the environment.
