Assam Couple Upset On Receiving ₹1 As Relief From Microfinance, Returns Cheque

GUWAHATI: During the distribution of incentive cheques by the Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme of the Assam Government, a couple from Bongaigaon was handed a cheque for ₹1 on November 6.

Tajmina Khatun and her husband Rejaul Ali, beneficiaries of the Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme are furious at the irony of receiving the meager amount from the Government.

The cheques were distributed at Gandhi Maidan in Bongaigaon district, Assam under the Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme on November 6.

Talking to the media, Rejaul Ali said they were surprised to receive the ₹1 cheque.

"We spent ₹400 to reach the venue and another ₹650 to get the clearance certificate from the bank only to receive a ₹1 check,” he added. 

He also said that their expenses for food are approximately ₹500 each which adds up to ₹1000 or more. 

Tajmina Khatun told the media that they don't want ₹1 and have returned the cheque. She has instead, asked for ₹650 to be deposited to RBL bank for the clearance certificate.
