“It is a great gesture of service. My appreciation to Shri Robin Kumar, Barpeta District SP in Assam for performing the dual role of a doctor & police officer to fight COVID-19 pandemic,” tweeted the Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu, applauding the humane services undertaken by Barpeta SP, Dr. Robin Kumar.

Robin Kumar hails from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and is a specialist in medicine (MBBS) and a 2013 batch IPS officer. As the district is currently seeing a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases, Dr. Kumar has taken up the dual duty of service both as a doctor and a police officer.

He is currently running a 50-bedded Covid care centre with four ICUs in Barpeta Police Reserve for police personnel and their families. He also organised a health camp for police personnel of over 50 years and plans to hold more such camps for women and elderly people.

"I find myself fortunate to dedicate myself to both the roles of the district police chief and a doctor. It gives me immense satisfaction," Kumar told PTI.

"When the pandemic struck, I took permission of Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta to open a covid care centre for the police personnel in Barpeta. Now, we are running the centre smoothly," he added.

During his tenure as a probationary officer in Sonitpur district, he had run an outpatient department for police personnel in the Tezpur town police reserve.

“IPF greets Robin Kumar MBBS MD, SP Barpeta Assam who is not only performing duties as District Police Chief, but is also treating covid19 patients while still donning his khakhi uniform! Runs a 50 bedded corona care hospital in the police reserve itself, complete with 5 ICU beds,” tweeted the Indian Police Foundation proudly.
