Assam: Committee Formed To Verify Authenticity Of Caste Certificates Of Ahom Community

GUWAHATI: Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Pijush Hazarika, convened a significant meeting with representatives from four Ahom community organisations at Janata Bhawan today. The meeting aimed to address the issue of caste certificates and ensure that genuine members of the Ahom Community receive their rightful entitlements.

Recognising the paramount importance of safeguarding the rights of Ahom community members, Minister Hazarika assured the representatives that the government is committed to finding a resolution. After extensive discussions, it was decided that a new Committee would be established to tackle the matter effectively.

The Committee's formation will involve the selection of members by the Ahom organisations' representatives, who will be entrusted with the responsibility of verifying the authenticity of caste certificate applications.

Emphasising the challenges faced by the Ahom community, the Minister stressed the urgency of expediting the process. Accordingly, the new Committee will be required to register under the Societies Registration Act of 1960. A proposal will be submitted to the Cabinet, seeking approval for this measure.
