Assam CM Urges Centre To Formulate New Industrial Policy For Northeast

 

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, representing Assam as a member of the North Eastern Council (NEC), voiced appreciation for the concerted efforts aimed at the economic and social development of the Northeastern region. 

The Chief Minister urged the Centre to formulate a new industrial policy for the Northeast, aiming to attract more private investors. Sarma expressed hope for the possible repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the state, currently in force in four districts. 

The 71st Plenary Session, held at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, witnessed the participation of key dignitaries, including Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah, who also serves as the Chairman of NEC, Union Minister for Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of State for DoNER B L Verma, and Governors and Chief Ministers from all member States of the NEC.

In a subsequent session, Sarma participated in the 11th Meeting of the North East Space Application Centre (NESAC) Society. The event aimed to address advancements and initiatives related to space applications in the Northeastern region.
