Assam CM Expresses Interest In Hosting Next National Games

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his enthusiasm to host the next edition of the National Games in the state, highlighting Assam's proud legacy in organizing premier sporting events.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 4th edition of the Khelo India University Games 2023, held at the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati, Sarma emphasised his government's commitment to investing in sports development.

Sarma cited Assam's successful track record in hosting major sporting events, including the National Games in 2007, the 12th South Asian Games in 2016, and the FIFA U-17 World Cup, among others. Expressing his desire for Assam to host the 2025 or 2026 National Games, Sarma underscored the state's readiness to showcase its sporting prowess on a national stage.

Highlighting the government's efforts to enhance sports infrastructure, Sarma announced plans to build sports complexes in all districts and Vidhan Sabha constituencies across Assam.
