GUWAHATI: In a recent diplomatic engagement, the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to India, Alex Ellis, met with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma where they discussed several key aspects, including the cultural significance of Vrindavani Vastra in Assamese society.
During the interaction, CM Sarma highlighted the emotional importance of Vrindavani Vastra and proposed measures to enhance access for scholars and researchers interested in studying this cultural facet. The discussions also encompassed initiatives aimed at fostering stronger ties between Assam and the UK.
Sarma emphasised the need for more opportunities for Assamese students to apply for the Chevening scholarship programme, promoting academic collaboration between the two regions. Additionally, a cordial conversation unfolded on collaborative efforts to advance a green economy, with a specific focus on electric vehicles (EVs) and tree plantation.
The High Commissioner Ellis expressed admiration for the success of Amrit Brikshya Andolan, an Assam government initiative to enrich biodiversity and empower citizens economically, acknowledging the strides made in environmental initiatives. The meeting signifies a commitment to diplomatic and cultural exchange, with both parties exploring avenues for collaboration in education, environmental sustainability, and cultural preservation.
