The SIT's primary task will be to track down those responsible for the leak and suggest measures to bolster the security of future exams. The leaked papers, which included Mathematics and Economics, prompted the cancellation of all HS first-year exams originally scheduled for March 24 to March 29. The issue came to light when the Mathematics exam, scheduled for March 21, was postponed following reports of a paper leak.

Further investigations revealed that sealed question paper packets were prematurely opened by various institutions, violating strict examination procedures. This breach has raised serious concerns about the security of Assam's examination system, which has faced similar controversies in the past. In response, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Board (AHSEB) has announced that the new dates for the remaining HS first-year exams will only be released after the Panchayat election schedule is finalised.
