Assam cabinet mandates two child norm for GMC ward members

GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet on Monday resolved a two-child norm for the ward members of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).

Apart from this, the cabinet also prescribed that the educational qualification for the ward members should be Degree for the general category while the qualification is class 12 pass for scheduled caste/scheduled tribe/other backward caste.  

It also prescribed that the ward members must have household toilet.    

Further, the cabinet decided that the Panchayat members should be at least class VI pass.

Last year, the Assam assembly passed Assam Panchayat (Amendment) Bill 2018 which states that any person willing to contest Panchayat polls must have a sanitary latrine at home and cannot have more than two children.
