Assam Cabinet Gives Nod To 8th National Park In State

GUWAHATI: Assam will soon have its eighth national park with the state cabinet on Sunday, February 16 approving establishment of Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park.

The park will be spread over 316.29 sq. km in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts between Raimona and Manas National parks. The move is aimed at conserving the region’s rich biodiversity. Assam now becomes second after Madhya Pradesh in the number of national parks with the latter having 10.

Other decisions: 

– A proposal to set up Swami Vivekananda University, a private institution in Chirang district, BTR, was also approved.

– The cabinet also approved three PG increments for Ayurvedic doctors who have successfully completed a three-year postgraduate degree from institutions recognised by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM).

Amendments to Autonomous Council Acts

The cabinet approved amendments to seven autonomous council Acts, including Mising AC, Rabha Hasong AC, Thengal Kachari AC, Sonowal Kachari AC, Deori AC, Bodo Kachari Welfare AC, and Tiwa AC Acts.

Among key changes are:

Interim committee or authority to function beyond the general and executive council’s term if elections are delayed.

The Tiwa Autonomous Council to have 38 members, up by two.
