GUWAHATI: In a recent move to reinforce the criminal justice system in Assam, the state cabinet has given its nod for the establishment of a dedicated Prosecution Service Cadre.
The move comes as part of the Assam State Prosecution Service Rules, 2023, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and overall conviction rates in the state's legal system. Under the newly introduced rules, a regular cadre will be constituted, comprising Public Prosecutors, Additional Public Prosecutors, Special Public Prosecutors, and Assistant Public Prosecutors.
This cadre will enjoy competitive pay scales and will operate as regular government servants. The rules extend to them the applicability of all existing regulations related to leave, conduct, travel, discipline, appeals, and financial protocols.
The establishment of this Prosecution cadre is anticipated to foster greater collaboration between the prosecution and investigation teams. This synergy is expected to optimise the effectiveness of Assam's criminal justice system.
