GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet, in a key decision made on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati, has accorded approval to designate the Assam State Space Application Centre (ASSAC) as the State Nodal Agency for policy support pertaining to Remote Sensing, GIS, GPS, and UAV/Drone surveys in the state. This decision aims to enhance the effective use of space technology in various developmental projects across the state.

In addition, the Cabinet has also approved the inclusion of ASSAC in the PM Gati Shakti-driven program for data-sharing, set standards for data quality, and policy framework of geospatial data in Assam.
With its new role as the State Nodal Agency, ASSAC will be better position to liaise with stakeholders of the State Government, ISRO, Department of Space (DOS), and NE-SAC (North Eastern Space Applications Centre). This will allow ASSAC to play a key role in the area of scientific and techno managerial activities.
ASSAC will also be able to provide advanced space technology inputs to departments like PWD (Roads), Water Resources, Irrigation, Agriculture, Revenue, and Disaster Management.This will help these departments integrate innovative solutions into the design and implementation of development projects, reducing costs and time overruns.
