Two Arrested For Extortion In The Name Of ULFA (I) In Sivasagar

 

GUWAHATI: Sivasagar police in Assam arrested two individuals on Tuesday, November 19, for allegedly attempting to extort money from a local businessman by posing as members of the banned militant outfit, United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA[I]).

The operation took place in Betbari village in Sivasagar district, leading to the apprehension of Pradip Bora and Mukut Changmai. According to police reports, the two accused had threatened the businessman, demanding ₹500,000 in exchange for his safety. Following the threats, a complaint was lodged by the businessman.

Speaking to GPlus, an official from the Sivasagar police station confirmed the arrests, stating, "Two individuals were arrested for extortion in the name of the banned militant group ULFA (I). The operation was conducted at Betbari village."

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
