Assam Budget 2024-25: Orunodoi 2.0 To Now Include Transgender And Divyangjan Individuals

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government during the budget 2024-25 has announced the expansion of its welfare program, Orunodoi 2.0, reaching out to an impressive 30 lakh households across the state. The expansion ensures that the benefits of the program extend not only to antyodaya women but also encompass transgender and divyangjan individuals.

Under the revised scheme, Orunodoi now includes households with members facing various challenges, such as dwarfism or conditions like cerebral palsy, thalassemia, haemophilia, leprosy, or autism spectrum disorder.

Over 27 lakh beneficiaries under this scheme receive ₹1250 each on the 10th day of every month directly in their bank accounts. The state government has decided to include an additional 2.5 lakh beneficiaries this year.

As per the budget announcement, the Assam government aims to streamline the distribution process by integrating the ration cards with Orunodoi on a pilot basis in the districts of Charaideo and Biswanath.

To further fortify the well-being of Orunodoi beneficiaries, the government is considering providing insurance coverage under two key schemes - Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).

A budget of ₹3800 crore has been allotted for the above mentioned initiatives.
