GUWAHATI: Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while announcing the Assam Budget 2019 said that thrust of the budget will be the middle class and the lower middle-class people.
The minister announced that under the scheme Gyan Deepika, the government will enhance the parental income of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh for free admission. The government will also provide free textbooks to students up to graduation level, from the present level of class XII.
It was also announced in the budget that battery operated 'e-bikes' will be provided to all girl students who secure 1st division or above in higher secondary examinations for commuting to their schools and colleges.
The government will also provide free uniform to students of class IX and X.
