GUWAHATI: One Mayazul Ali Lashkar, reported to be a BJP leader, has been arrested for attempting to rape a 13-year-old minor girl at Lailapur in Assam's Cachar district.

According to sources, Lashkar (55) reportedly seized the opportunity when the girl was alone and tried to drag her into his shop, which is located near her school after she came to buy a pen.
The girl managed to escape and reported the incident to a teacher, who informed her father. The father then filed a police complaint, which led to Lashkar's arrest.
Media reports indicate that Lashkar is an active BJP member in the Dholai, Channigat GP region, and also a Secretary in the state Home Guard.
However, while speaking with Gplus, police officials have confirmed the arrest but did not verify if he is a BJP member.
