GUWAHATI: Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain, who became the first Assamese to secure a medal in the 125-year history of the Olympic games, is likely to be showered with a basket of rewards by the Assam Government on her return. The rewards include cash and job incentives for Lovlina Borgohain
The Assam boxer who went down fighting against Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the women’s welterweight boxing category had to settle for a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics today.
“Congratulations to Assam’s daughter @LovlinaBorgohai for bringing home the bronze medal in #Olympics boxing. Your name will be etched in golden letters in the history of Assam. The entire nation is proud of your phenomenal achievement,” Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
Under the Assam Sports Integrated Policy 2017-18, Lovlina is likely to get many rewards after she put Assam in the World sports map.
Under the policy provisions, Lovlina has become eligible for Government services under Assam Civil Service (ACS), Assam Police Service (APS), Superintendent of Taxes, Supritendent of Excise, Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies and District Transport Officer (DTO).
According to the policy, Olympic Bronze medal winners will get a cash reward of Rs 50 lakh and become eligible for direct entry into class 1 Assam Government posts, irrespective of their educational qualifications, minimum age, etc.
Additionally, Lovlina Borgohain along with her potential future spouse will get a free travel concession for life.
It may be mentioned here that Hima Das, for her achievements in the Asian Games 2018 and IAAF World U-20 Championship 2018, was rewarded with a cash award of Rs 1.60 crore by the State government. Internationally acclaimed sprinter Hima Das was also appointed as a Deputy Superintendent (DSP) in Assam Police.
