Assam Bags Four National Awards in Fisheries Sector

GUWAHATI: The state of Assam has bagged four top awards in the fisheries sector from the central ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying announced on November 17.

Among other honours, Assam has been named the Best State in Fisheries among the hill states and northeastern regions for its best performance in the sector. 


Further, the Assam Apex Cooperative Fish Marketing and Processing Federation Ltd (FISHFED) has bagged Best Quasi Government Organisation Award and Nagaon District of Assam has been named the Best District among all hilly and northeastern districts. 


Moreover, Amal Medhi from Assam has been recognized as the Best Fish Farmer from hilly and northeastern region.


State fisheries department commissioner and secretary Rakesh Kumar will be receiving the award on behalf of the state government on November 21 at a function in New Delhi. The Best state award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a certificate, a shawl and a memento.


The performance for the awards were evaluated for three years from 2017-18 to 2019-20.
