Assam: Around 70 percent cast vote in 1st phase of Lok Sabha Polls

GUWAHATI: Around 70 per cent of the electorate exercised their franchise in the five constituencies of Assam which went to the polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 11.

As per official reports issued by the State Election Department, Tezpur 70%, Kaliabor 64%,Jorhat 72%, Dibrugarh 69%,Lakhimpur 62%  of polling till 5:00 PM with an average of 67.4 % of voters turn out.

However, reportedly polling was still going on at some centres as citizens came in large numbers to exercise their rights hence the figure is likely to increase. However, we are yet to recieve the total tally of numbers from the EC.

No incident of violence was reported from anywhere and polling was largely peaceful, Election Commission official said.

The secoend phase of election will be held on April 18 in Karimganj, Silchar, Autonomous District, Mangaldoi and Nowgong.
