This amendment of the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation, 1886 aims to protect the cultural identity and land rights of revenue villages predominantly inhabited by Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) populations by identifying them as protected areas. The bill will be presented to the Assam Legislative Assembly.

To implement this, a Cabinet Sub-committee has been formed, consisting of Ministers Ranoj Pegu, U.G. Brahma, and Pijush Hazarika. This committee will identify these villages and designate them as Micro-protected blocks.

The amendment seeks to ensure proper land management, conservation, and protection of land rights of the indigenous people of the state.

Furthermore, the Assam Cabinet also approved the formation of Cabinet Sub-Committee to address the issue of land premiums in Guwahati. The newly formed Sub-Committee will be led by Hon'ble Ministers Ashok Singhal and Jogen Mohan.

The committee’s primary task is to rationalise land premiums with retrospective effect, aiming to update land premium regulations.
