The decision was made during the state cabinet meeting on Wednesday, August 21, for aligning land reclassification with the permissible land use plans of local authorities across both urban and rural areas.
The amendment is set to simplify and expedite the process of reclassifying land from one category to another, ensuring that these changes conform to the local land use plans. This is expected to provide a more efficient and citizen-friendly approach to land reclassification, allowing for smoother transitions in land use as per the needs of the community.
One of the significant highlights of this amendment is the emphasis on ease of service delivery. Citizens will benefit from a more straightforward and hassle-free process when seeking to reclassify their land from non-agricultural to other purposes, or between other classes, by the local land use plan.
In addition, the state government has announced plans to launch a reclassification service suite under Mission Basundhara 3.0, utilising the provisions of the amended Act. This service suite is expected to further enhance the efficiency of land management processes in Assam, providing a one-stop solution for reclassification needs.
