GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) staged a protest in Guwahati on Thursday against the recurring and substantial increases in electricity tariffs across the state.
Additionally in the protest, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi also set fire to the official notice announcing the recent electricity tariff hike. The protest was organised by the Guwahati District Committee and drew the participation of hundreds of individuals, including senior APCC leaders, despite persistent rainfall.
Talking to the media, Gaurav Gogoi criticised the State Government for its reckless borrowing and the dire financial situation in Assam. He also condemned the government for causing hardship to the common public through frequent increases in taxes on nearly every commodity.
Gogoi further claimed that, if elected, the Congress would provide 200 units of free electricity.
