GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has taken decisive action against an Assam Civil Services (ACS) officer following allegations of serious misconduct.
Mukul Kathar, ACS, who formerly held the position of Secretary in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
The suspension comes in light of an investigation conducted by Rajeshan Terang, ACS, Secretary of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, in response to allegations lodged against Kathar.
According to the report submitted by the Principal Secretary of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Kathar physically assaulted Sengpi Teronpi and allegedly brandished a firearm at his wife, Lindalee Teronpi. The incident reportedly occurred on April 22 in Diphu.
Further exacerbating the situation, two separate cases have been registered against Kathar under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, 1959, at the Diphu Police Station. These cases remain under active investigation.
Pending the initiation of formal departmental proceedings, the Assam Government has invoked Rule 6(1) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964, to suspend Kathar. The suspension was announced with immediate effect and includes provisions for his headquarters to be situated in Guwahati during the period of suspension.
This arrangement may be subject to review as deemed necessary. Kathar had reported to the Personnel (A) Department on June 12, following which the decision for suspension was taken.
