Assam Academician Receives Pushkin Medal For Contribution To Russian Language And Literature

GUWAHATI: Professor Kandarpa Das, the Vice Chancellor of Girijananda Chowdhury University, has been bestowed with the prestigious Pushkin Medal for the year 2023. This esteemed honour was awarded by the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (MAPRYAL).

The grand ceremony took place in Saint Petersburg, Russia, where Professor Das received the accolade from Vladimir Ilich Tolstoy, the President of MAPRYAL and the distinguished grandson of the legendary Russian writer, Leo Tolstoy. The event celebrated several other recipients hailing from countries such as India, Argentina, Iran, Romania, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Armenia, Nigeria, Tunisia, Bulgaria, and Brazil.

The Pushkin Medal, named after the iconic Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, stands as a symbol of global recognition for exceptional achievements in the realm of Russian language and literature. Prof. Das's recognition in this esteemed group highlights his significant and enduring impact on the study and promotion of the Russian language and its rich literary heritage.
