ASI arrested after being caught accepting Bribe

GUWAHATI: The Assam Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officers on April 29 arrested the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Tihu Police Station under Nalbari district of Assam after he was caught red-handed while accepting “illegal gratification.”  

ASI Ram Charan Nath was arrested after he was caught accepting a bribe amount of Rs 15,000 from the complainant, one Udhab Talukdar.

As per police reports, the accused, Nath demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 for submission of a favourable 'Case Diary' to the court for bail by the elder sister and wife of the complainant, who had been arrested and were in judicial custody. As an installment of the bribe, Rs 15000 was asked to be paid on April 29.

Meanwhile, Talukdar approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption and a trap was laid down as per standard procedure in the matter of ACB PS Case No. 05/2019 u/s 7(a) of PC Act (as amended in 2018).

The accused ASI has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Special Court and due procedures of the whole incident are observed.
