GUWAHATI: The Assam Government, during its Cabinet Meeting on December 21, announced a decision to scale down viva-voce marks in the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

The decision aims to strike a proper balance between the written examination and the viva-voce test, aligning with recommendations from the MP Bezbaruah Committee (2015) and a Supreme Court judgment in the Ashok Kumar Yadav and Others vs. State of Haryana and Others case.

The existing viva-voce marks, constituting 18.33% of the total evaluation, will now be reduced to 12% of the total written examination marks, amounting to a scale-down from 275 to 180 marks. This revision is being targetted to streamline the examination system and ensure a fair and balanced evaluation process for candidates participating in the APSC's Combined Competitive Examination.
