GUWAHATI: Amrit Kalash Yatra was flagged off from Guwahati early on October 27 by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma as a part of the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” programme.
The Chief Minister arrived at the Guwahati Railway Station at approximately 5:45 AM, as reported. During his visit, he officiated the flagging-off ceremony of the Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express, carrying a total of 270 urns filled with soil.
This event marks a culmination of the Amrit Kalash Yatra, which commenced in Assam on September 20. The Amrit Kalash Yatra is an initiative that saw soil being collected from households in every village and municipal ward across Assam.
This diverse collection of soil was then combined and placed within the urns at Guwahati. The urns are destined to reach New Delhi on Saturday as a symbol of homage to the martyrs who fought for India's independence.
The central aim of the yatra is to commemorate the sacrifices of these martyrs and to perpetuate their ideals.
As per available information, a total of 540 urns had been kept at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Of these, 270 were dispatched to Delhi today. Another set of 270 urns will soon embark on a journey to Gohpur, Assam, where they will play a pivotal role in the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the state's proposed largest university.
