GUWAHATI: “Home minister Amit Shah said that the condition of Guwahati is worrisome. He asked us to conduct at least 10,000 tests per day,” informed health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference today.
Reportedly, Guwahati city alone has recorded 1,212 cases between 24th June and 30th June. On 1st July, till the time of the press conference, 157 additional positive cases were recorded in the city.

Sarma further added that the city has identified moderate level symptomatic cases. As such aggressive treatment might have to be administered very soon.
The state government plans to conduct 2,000 to 3,000 tests in Guwahati per day.
The city currently has 1,538 hospital beds for COVID-19 patients of which 987 are occupied. Sarma further mentioned that the government plans to set up about 3,000 beds for the cause. As such Maniram Dewan Trade Centre and Patanjali Yogpeeth have been converted into Covid care centres. Also, Railway Hospital and Army Hospital might be used for coronavirus treatment.
