GUWAHATI: A group of young animal lovers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has started an initiative to feed the dogs in the campus. The initiative has been undertaken by a campus resident Amit Sravan Bora, with a few of his friends residing in the campus. In a facebook post, he urged the residents and students of IIT Guwahati campus to come forward and help the stray dogs living in the campus.
Talking to G Plus, Amit said, "Ever since IIT Guwahati became a containment zone, strict restrictions on mobility have been imposed. This has led to the closure of all the shops and canteens throughout the campus. While the students and residents of the campus are in the comfort of their homes, the community dogs in the campus of IIT Guwahati were having a hard time searching for food. In this regard, me and some dog lovers in the campus took up an initiative to feed the stray dogs here."
The team wrote emails and appealed throughout social media asking dog lovers of the campus to contribute for the cause by raising funds. The fundraiser was successful and they were able to collect around 150 kilograms of dog food through a delivery service company based in Guwahati. The team immediately started feeding all the strays as many of the dogs were lactating and were in dire need of food.
