All Assam Legislative Assembly Staff Asked To Follow Dress Code, Timings

GUWAHATI: Employees can no longer be casual about office timings or their attire. Now all the employees of the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) Secretariat, including staff working on a wage, fixed pay or monthly honorarium basis, will have to follow the dress code and timings for their duty.

In an official order on November 4, the ALA principal secretary asked all the employees and members to maintain the dress code and timings on duty.

The order asked the employees to avoid wearing informal dresses like Jeans, T-shirts, and leggings at the workplace.

“All employees should attend office on all working days with formal attire for women like salwar suit, saree, mekhela chador and formal trouser and shirt for men. Traditional attire of any community of Assam could be worn every Wednesday if employees choose to do so.,” the order which was issued at the directive of Speaker Biswajit Daimary stated.

“All employees irrespective of rank should wear office uniform to be prescribed and provided by the Secretariat mandatorily during the Assembly session and any other formal occasions/ programme or when decided by the competent authority,” the order further stated.

It also mentioned, “Any employee who fails to comply with the instructions stated above shall be liable for strict action. Further, any employee failing to fulfil the requisite hours of working shall be liable for deduction in his/her monthly salary.”

The order also included detailed attendance for the employees and their work timings.

It stated, "All employees should reach the office at 9.30 AM sharp and mandatorily mark their attendance in the biometric attendance system and log out only after office hours at the time of leaving the office. However, the office timings are subject to the exigencies of official work and employees should perform duties above and beyond official working hours as per need and urgency of work from time to time.''
