GUWAHATI: Festive occasions like Holi often intertwine with alcohol consumption, a trend which generated higher revenue compared to last year in Assam.

According to the Excise Department, Guwahati consumed alcohol worth ₹11.8 crore over the two days of Holi, on March 25 and 26.

In 2023, Assam consumed alcohol worth ₹10.62 crore, with ₹9.58 crore sold on the first day of Holi and ₹1.04 crore on the second day.
Kamrup (M) alone contributed ₹5.18 crore of the total collection, last year during the Holi celebrations.
In February, Assam Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya shared that Assam had consumed alcohol worth over ₹16,000 crore in the last five years."
