Akhil Gogoi released from jail after 105 days

Rights activist and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) president Akhil Gogoi, who was released from prison on Wednesday after 105 days of his arrest under the National Security Act (NSA) and other charges, alleged there was no democracy in the country under BJP rule and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was a puppet in the hands of Delhi-based leaders.

Hundreds of members of KMSS welcomed Akhil Gogoi after he was released.

Addressing the media, he said, "There is no democracy in the state. All the cases thrown at me were baseless. KMSS will now help in carrying forward the NRC procedure properly. We will not accept any illegal immigrants that entered the state after 1971. I will work for the people till I die."

He further said, "I am happy to come out of the jail today. The charges framed agaisnt me by the BJP Govt in Assam were all baseless, and this is why the Gauhati high Court ha quashed the detention order against me uner the NSA."

Gogoi was arrested on September 15 by the Dibrugarh Police for a speech in which he allegedly incited people to take up arms and other cases. The Gauhati High Court, however, quashed the cases against Gogoi.
