GUWAHATI: Air India and Vistara have completed their merger on Tuesday, November 12. The newly unified carrier will operate under the Air India brand with the airline code ‘AI’, while flights previously operated by Vistara will be distinguished by a four-digit flight number beginning with “2.”
This merger significantly bolsters Air India’s reach, with a combined fleet of 208 aircraft now offering over 5,600 weekly flights to more than 90 domestic and international destinations. Singapore Airlines, which previously held a 49% stake in Vistara, now owns a 25.1% share in the newly consolidated Air India group.
The integration process involved the seamless transfer of Vistara’s Club Vistara (CV) loyalty members to Air India’s revamped frequent flyer programme, now called the ‘Maharaja Club’. This shift added around 4.5 million new members to the programme and involved migrating over 270,000 existing customer bookings. The merger also brought over 6,000 staff from Vistara into Air India’s workforce and consolidated more than 4,000 vendor contracts.
This is the second merger for the Air India group this year, following the unification of budget airlines Air India Express and AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India) on October 1.
