After Sanaullah, Retired IAF Officer Excluded From NRC Final List

GUWAHATI: Retired Indian Air Force (IAF) officer Sabindra Sharma is among the 19 lakh people whose names are missing from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list published on Aug 31.

According to reports, Sabindra Sharma joined the Indian Air Force in 1980 and after serving at the Indian airspace for 37 years he retired last year as a flight lieutenant.

Speaking to media Sharma said, "I retired from the IAF as a flight lieutenant last year. My father is a freedom fighter and he is still alive and he is now 97 years old. All of my family members, including my parent, wife, son-daughter, were included in the list, but my name was missing. I don’t know why my name was not listed. After receiving notices, I appeared for three hearings and the officials were also satisfied with my documents. I was deployed in 13-14 places of the country – Tezpur, West Bengal, Bhutan (on deputation), New Delhi, Srinagar, Jammu, Rajasthan.... I was conferred with the President of India award by President Ram Nath Kovind in 2017.”

On the other hand, Kargil war veteran and retired army officer Mohammad Sanaullah’s name also failed to appeared in the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list.

It is to be mentioned that Sanaullah had appealed in the Gauhati High Court against the Foreigner’s Tribunal order after he was declared a foreigner. His appeal is pending in the Gauhati High Court.

As per reports, Sanaullah served the Indian Army for 30 years. He had also received the President’s Medal in 2014. Later, Sanaullah joined the Border Police in 2018.
