Advantage Assam 2.0: CM Sarma Seeks Singapore's Support In Key Projects

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s ongoing visit to Singapore has seen key discussions aimed at boosting collaboration in the state’s sectors, such as semiconductors, green energy, and urban development.

As part of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, to be held on February 25-26, Sarma engaged with Singaporean leaders and industry experts to strengthen Assam’s position as a hub for emerging industries.

First, the chief minister met Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and highlighted Assam’s role in the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He expressed appreciation for Singapore’s involvement in Assam’s development and recalled President Tharman’s 2022 visit to the state. Discussions centered around ongoing projects and potential collaborations in technology-driven sectors.

Additionally, reviewing the Surbana Jurong Group’s existing projects in Assam, Sarma engaged in talks about ways to leverage Singapore’s expertise in urban planning. He emphasised that Singapore’s experience in developing modern cities and industrial parks could significantly enhance Assam’s infrastructure and ease-of-living standards.

Another highlight of the visit was Sarma’s meeting with top leaders from the semiconductor industry, where he invited companies to partner in Assam’s upcoming electronic city in Jagiroad. Representatives from ASMPT, AEM, Besi, Temasek, Silicon Box, Nitto Denko Corp, Heller Industries, and Meinhardt Group participated in discussions with the chief minister on investment opportunities.

Finally, Sarma expressed optimism about deepening the India-Singapore connection, particularly in high-tech sectors, and stated that the momentum generated during this visit would help drive Assam’s development forward.
