GUWAHATI: Cricketer Riyan Parag, Assam actor Kopil Bora, singer Anindita Paul and para-cyclist Rakesh Banik have been appointed as the icons of Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP).
This was informed by the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, Nitin Khade on March 5 while addressing a press conference regarding SVEEP activities in Guwahati.
“It's an important task which has been assigned to us as apolitical citizens of our country. The aim is to use our influence as artists to reach out to people and inspire them to compulsorily exercise their right to vote,” expressed Kopil Bora, speaking to G Plus upon being appointed as the icon of Assam Elections 2021.
“We would make the public aware of the special facilities which will be there for the elderly, physically challenged voters to vote conveniently along with the important measures which have been taken keeping in mind the COVID-19 situation,” he further added.
A mascot has been released for the Assam Assembly Election 2021, named 'Bohag and Bohagi' along with the election song in order to aware the masses of their right to franchise and subsequently increase the rate of vote in the state.
The state election slogan "Ab ki baar 85% paar" was also officially released during the press conference.
Further, the election commission has released a toll-free number 1950 for any help to the voters.
Chief Electoral Officer of Assam Nitin Khade informed that street-plays will be performed across the state to aware citizens of the importance of the election.
