Accused Arrested In Extortion And Blackmail Case In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Cyber Police Station of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) Assam has arrested an accused involved in an extortion and blackmail case registered on October 9.

The accused, identified as Sadique Ali, a 22-year-old resident of Choudhury Pam in Chaigaon, Kamrup, is facing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.

The case revolves around a disturbing sequence of events where the accused, posing as "Rahul Sharma," allegedly engaged in deceitful conduct with the victim, involving sexual exploitation and fraudulent promises of marriage.

According to the complaint filed, the accused built a fraudulent relationship with the victim by promising marriage, only to later reveal his true intentions, leading to the victim's decision to end the relationship. However, it was at this point that the accused resorted to threatening tactics and took a more sinister turn by posting explicit photographs of the victim on various social media platforms and sharing them with others.

In response to the victim's complaint, the authorities launched a comprehensive investigation, deploying cyber forensic tools and techniques to trace the accused.

On November 2, law enforcement authorities successfully apprehended Sadique Ali near Panbazar Railway Station. He was subsequently brought to the CID Police Station for further legal proceedings.
