GUWAHATI: Starting on May 28, Sunday, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) will start a month-long agitation across Assam protesting against the state government’s decision to change the medium of instruction for mathematics and science in the vernacular-medium language schools.
In a statement issued to the media on Friday, AASU alleged that this particular move of the state government would push Assamese, Bodo, and other local languages of the state to the verge of extinction. AASU’s protest would include several activities, including a 10-hour hunger strike in every district of the state.

The protest activities in this month-long agitation would keep changing on a day-to-day basis.
Other protest programmes include mass satyagraha, public awareness, programmes seeking advice from various teachers’ organisations, cycle rallies, public events, etc. AASU will also meet eminent citizens, scholars, and educators in the state and seek their suggestions on the issue
