GUWAHATI: The 70th Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy 2025 commenced today at Judges' Field, Guwahati, with 17 teams competing in the final round.

Organised by the Guwahati Sports Association with support from the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam, and various district sports associations, the tournament will run until 13 March, offering a total prize money of ₹80 lakh.
This year’s edition follows a three-stage format, featuring 280 clubs from 35 districts. The final round includes six cluster winners, six runners-up, two top teams from the GPFL 2024, and three invited clubs—NorthEast United FC, Shillong Lajong FC, and Oil India Limited FC.
The participating teams are Barekuri FC, 19th APBN, Dubi Sports Association, Dhekiajuli Town Club, Navajyoti Club, Trinayan Goshti, Baradi FC, Global FC, Dima United FC, Lenroul FC, ASEB Sports Club, Rani Coaching Centre, NFRSA, and Pride East Mavericks. With 605 matches played and 8,400 players involved, this edition marks the tournament’s largest participation to date.
Additionally, 17 standout Under-19 players will be selected for specialised training at Marbella FC in Spain.
The opening ceremony was graced by Assam’s Public Health Engineering and Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Jayanta Mallabarua as the chief guest, with Guwahati Police Commissioner Dr Partha Sarathi Mahanta as the special guest and State Bank of India Assistant General Manager Sujit Dey as the guest of honour.
