GUWAHATI: Cachar police on Wednesday, June 16, arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 9-year-old minor girl at her home in the Kanakpur area near Silchar city.
The accused reportedly attacked the minor at her house and fled when she raised an alarm.
Sadar Police Station (PS) officials informed G Plus that the victim's father lodged an FIR in connection to the incident. He also informed that an overnight search was conducted for the absconding accused.
"The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon. The accused has been on the run since the incident and an overnight search was arranged for him. He was arrested from the Sildubi area of Sonai on Wednesday," a Sadar PS police official told G Plus.
The accused was produced before court on Wednesday after preliminary interrogation. He has been booked under IPC (Indian Penal Code) and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, a Sadar PS police official informed.
