GUWAHATI: The planned strike by the North East India Petroleum Dealers Association (NEIPDA), which would have seen petrol pumps across Assam and the North East shutting down from March 30 to April 1, has been postponed.

This decision comes after NEIPDA held a General Meeting at its Uzan Bazar office on March 28, where members discussed their grievances and demands. Among the primary concerns raised was the lack of revision in dealer commissions since 2017, coupled with the increasing operational costs faced by retail outlets (ROs). NEIPDA had communicated these issues to oil companies in a letter dated February 3, 2024, but received no response.
Despite initial plans for a strike, NEIPDA has decided to defer the action after consultations with the district administration, election media cell, police administration, and oil companies.
However, talking to GPlus, a senior official from NEIPDA said, "The issue lies with the oil companies being government undertakings, which could violate the election code of conduct if their demands were accepted. As a result, the strike has been postponed for the time being."
