Around 300 participants, including boxers and referees, representing approximately 30 districts from across the state, are expected to compete in this state-level event.
The championship will run until December 2, with a formal inaugural ceremony scheduled for Saturday at 3 PM, announced Hemanta Kumar Kalita, Secretary General of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and General Secretary of the AABA.
Kalita emphasised the significance of the championship as a selection trial for Assam’s men’s and women’s teams ahead of the Elite National Championship in January. The Senior National Boxing Championship in January 2025, to be held in Uttarakhand, has also been designated by the BFI as a qualifying event for the National Games, which will take place in the same state later that year.
Notable boxers, including Assam’s own stars Ankushita Boro and Jamuna Boro, are set to participate in the championship. Olympians Shiva Thapa and Lovlina Borgohain are also expected to represent Assam at the upcoming National Games.
