44 Arrested In Kerala For Gang Rape Of Teenager Over Five Years

 

GUWAHATI: Kerala Police have arrested 44 men and filed 30 FIRs against 59 individuals for the repeated gang rape of a Dalit teenager over five years.

The victim, now 18, endured horrific abuse at the hands of 62 men, including sports trainers, classmates, and fellow athletes, starting when she was just 13. The abuse occurred in various locations, including a bus stand, a rubber plantation, and even at a Pathanamthitta General Hospital in January 2024. 

The matter came to light when the victim's teachers at her school reported concerning behavioral changes to the Child Welfare Committee during a counseling session.

The police are working tirelessly to gather critical scientific evidence, including mobile phone data and documents. 

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Deputy Superintendent of Police PS Nandakumar and overseen by District Police Chief VG Vinod Kumar, has been formed to conduct a comprehensive probe into the incident. The SIT comprises over 30 police officers, including women, from various ranks and stations.

Two suspects remain at large, believed to be abroad, and authorities have issued international arrest warrants through Interpol. 

The National Commission for Women has demanded the immediate arrest of all remaining suspects and a detailed report on the investigation within three days.
