GUWAHATI: Under the initiative of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Assam has introduced 4-year undergraduate programmes in all higher education institutions.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at Gauhati University on June 3, 2023.
The University will offer a bachelor's degree in a stream and a bachelor's degree in a discipline.
The Gauhati University will provide 39 Bachelor's Degrees within the stream-based category, and 28 stand-alone degrees under the various fields, including a Bachelor of Vocational Studies.
Under the new programme, students will have flexibility in choosing their courses across a wide range of options in their curricular areas of major, minor, interdisciplinary, value-added, skill enhancement, and ability enhancement courses besides mandatory internships and vocational training.
In order to assure the smooth implementation of the new programme, the Gauhati University has already discussed the matter and received approval from several committees and forums.
According to NEP 2020, the regulations for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) at Gauhati University offer possibilities for several entries and exits, including a certificate, diploma, or degree with or without a major.
