30% Seat Reservation Announced For Tea Tribes And Adivasi Communities Of Assam

GUWAHATI: A 30% reservation in the recruitment of contractual staff for the Programme Management Unit (PMU) has been implemented for the candidates from the Tea Tribes and Adivasi community. The decision was announced on the most recent cabinet meeting held on January 7.

The PMU is set to be established under the Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare Department.

The decision to reserve 30% of the seats in the PMU recruitment process is targetted to promote social inclusion and addressing historical disparities. This reserved quota aims to create a level playing field for candidates belonging to the Tea Tribes and Adivasi community.

Additionally, the reservation is based on merit, focussing that candidates selected for contractual staff positions in the PMU possess the necessary skills and qualifications. The establishment of the PMU under the Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare department will look to streamline and enhance the administration of welfare programs for these communities.

The reserved seats in the PMU are expected to contribute to more effective and representative governance. The announcement also specifies that this reservation is a one-time consideration, indicating that it is intended to address immediate concerns and rectify existing imbalances in representation within the PMU
