GUWAHATI: In a significant move towards citizen-centric governance and improved service delivery, the Assam State Cabinet, in its meeting held on July 12, gave its in-principle approval to the 'Sugam to Durgam' scheme which aims to ensure equitable development and effective governance by requiring government employees, regardless of their class, to serve in designated "Durgam" areas for a period of 3 to 5 years during their tenure.
The 'Sugam to Durgam' scheme is based on the principle of fair distribution of government resources and services to all regions, including areas that have historically lagged behind in development.
Under this scheme, every government employee will be required to contribute their skills and expertise to specific geographical areas designated as 'Durgam' regions.
The term 'Durgam' refers to areas that have been identified as needing focused attention and accelerated development.
By mandating government employees to work in these regions for a defined period, the state government aims to bridge the development gap, address regional disparities, and ensure that citizens in these areas receive the necessary governance and services.
