GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has approved the Jorhat Town Water Supply Scheme with an approved budget of ₹191.94 crore for the same by the Assam Cabinet in the meeting held yesterday.

The project aims to provide '24 x 7 Drink-from-Tap' water supply facility in Jorhat. The town, with its growing population, has been reeling under an extreme water stress, as per researchers.

Several other announcements were made during the meeting including construction of a new Medical College and Hospital in Karimganj, introducing Meitei script for Assam schools and colleges, etc.
