23 Police Personnel Die of COVID-19 in Assam, Govt to Give Ex-Gratia of Rs 50 Lakh Each

GUWAHATI: With the unprecedented pandemic engulfing the entire country, the frontline workers have been working for the last six months. Amongst them is the police force of India. 


In a recent post by the Indian Police Foundation on their official twitter account, it has been mentioned that 700 police and CAPF personnel have succumbed to COVID-19.


The post read, "It is painful to note that 700 Police / CAPF personnel have laid down their lives so far, shielding the nation against Covid-19. A grateful nation stands with their families. As of today, 1,30,399 personnel have been infected, while working in the frontlines of this battle."


Harmeet Singh, ADGP Assam Police speaking to G Plus mentioned that in Assam a total of 23 personnel have sacrificed their lives as frontline workers, succumbing to the dreaded coronavirus.


Earlier, Singh had tweeted, "We bow our heads in salutation to those brave Police/CAPF #CoronaWarriors who have made the Supreme Sacrifice in the fight against #COVID19. Hon’ CM Assam, Sh. @sarbanandsonwal has kindly declared ex-gratia of Rs 50,00,000/- (each) for all @assampolice  personnel who passed away."


"I wanted to let the country know that the Assam government has been kind enough to acknowledge our sacrifice and have even announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 50 lakh for every dead personnel," Harmeet Singh told G Plus.


He also confirmed that the process of handing over the amount is underway and each family of the deceased will be given an amount of Rs 50 lakh.
